My recent endevour of testing the new unique set...

MTGO recently released Coldsnap expansion set the supposedly belated set for Ice Age block. I did have fun, even though I didn't do as well as much as I had been hoping to. I guess a year have passed making my skill a bit rusty.

I think I rushed my matches a bit and I didn't have anyone to practice decks that I build beforehand. Usually I get to practice the deck that we build with either Zaaba or Fahmi. For those interested, decks that I constructed for my league is as follows:

WUb Zur deck

I lost my first three point matches playing the first deck. Then I realized that my White and Blue might not be need enough to be played. I seems to be running short on decent creatures. I thought Jotun Grunt is a good creature, but I was mistaken. The upkeep cost is just impossible to get on a 40 cards deck. He became a 1 turn blocker most of the time.

I also thought that Rimewind Taskmage would be a bomb, practically an Icy Manipulator on legs, and I'm wrong again. I just didn't have enough snow permanent on board to support it. I even have to once, tutor Cover of Winter with Zur just to get the forth snow permanent. I also have problem with spells with recover such as Grim Harvest and Krovikan Rot because I don't have instant speed removal.

That's when it finally hit me that I need to tap into Green for more beef, and Red for extra removals. I have Ronom Hulk in green and 3 removals in red namely Skred, Surging Flame and Lightning Storm.

GRb deck

The combination worked really well, and I won my last 2 point match and many later tie-breaker match. I came to realise that removals is king in a limited tournament. Should have used that deck earlier. Nevermind though the key point is to have fun really. Without fun this game is just another hole in your pocket.
